Hundreds of songs, books and even a 60’s TV show were inspired by Route 66, but it’s the personal images we make and share from the legendary Mother Road that are its greatest prize. In Spring 2018 we’re offering a photo tour from Amarillo, Texas to Santa Monica, driving as much of the surviving original road as possible over a roughly 1200 mile odyssey. I’ll share my favorite locations from two Route 66 books and several magazine features, and many a road trip of my own.

We’ll cruise west from Amarillo across the high desert realm of New Mexico and Arizona, rich in Route 66 icons, architecture and Americana, ending our journey at the Pacific Ocean, and the landmark pier in Santa Monica. We’ll photograph Neon, diners, signs, gas stations, teepees, vintage cars and yes the great highway itself. Come explore Route 66 with me and create your own collection of quirky, kitschy, poetic images...

This is a Self-Drive trip, so you can roll that prize Corvette or ’49 Ford pickup and photograph it in historic and scenic locations. Or, consider this the perfect excuse to rent that dream ride and go road tripping on one of the most famous highways on the planet. We’ll allow plenty of time for photographing an amazing variety of subjects, timed for best light. We’ll stay in authentic Route 66 motels when possible, to better interpret the experience, and still be comfortable. And we’ll graze along the route, in historic diners and joints that reflect the ambience of the Main Street of America. Expect night photo sessions!

Kerrick will offer real time instruction, and help you plan distinctive images you will be proud to share. Both Digital and Film shooters of every experience level are welcome. Critiques during the trip are included, and Kerrick can help you with your image processing, in Lightroom and Photoshop. A detailed itinerary will be shared with you on request, but we may make changes based on weather and to optimize photo ops.
